I cried tears at the Shana Special… Tears of joy and laughter!

Sacrilege I tell you. Sacrilege that I haven’t thought about this series for a while and even had to find out a month afterwards from flame-haze.net that the OVA had been subbed by Eclipse already… that’s a bad Shana fanboy, bad!

What I thought was a nice touch here was using the original opening, which matched where the OVA was storywise to the series I guess. Still, I felt great waves of nostalgia, which is always a good thing. The OVA starts by setting where chronologically it is, being just after the defeat of the Aizen Siblings.

From the get go, you could kinda figure out it was going to be centered not on the normal main characters, seeing as it starts with one of Oga’s dreams hilariously enough. In said dreamscape, Eita declares one of the funniest confessions I’ve ever seen, “To tell you the truth, I love you Oga-chan. This is love, I am in love with you. [Because I love you]. So let us start a platonic relationship with marriage as aour future goal.” It was also here that the string of WTFs started happening XD

Of course, we find out it was all a dream, and the day happened to be the school trip to which they would be staying at a hot spring. How ‘convenient’… for us. Ike here, quite unusually provides some good comedic relief here, being all car sick in the bus.

It was at a shrine where Eita and Keisaku run up a famous flight of stairs to which any pair who go up together are destined to be together. Oga, on finding out, had to stop this from happening. From here, the yaoi hints for Eita and Keisaku began which begins the main emphasis of the special 0_0 Seriously, Oga decides Keisaku is her rival then.

Of course we get our obligatory bath house scene, where the majority of the guys try to peek on the girls. To which Ike and Yuji sit back to luckily, seeing as they were caught. Ike again is just hilariously funny for some reason in the special, especially being so cool and calculating and only eavesdropping, not peeking XD

More situational misunderstandings from Oga, one showing a very convincing love scene between Eita and Keisaku and we are pretty much the whole way through, with a near romantic scene to end off with as well. The ending was hilarious, the first ending designed with Oga stills instead. Brilliant.

Content-wise, the special didn’t have much depth, but it made up well with its comedy and it was nice to see a different story emphasis apart form the usual main characters. It was quite enjoyable and worth a watch if you’re a Shana fan.

Now, after the credits, the was a advertisement for the movie, which reminded me that it was to be released in April. Now, I am actually kind of looking forward to this. Even though it may be a retelling of the first 6 episodes basically, it should still be pretty fun to watch and I would expect some content that didn’t appear in the anime as well. But, that’s to see when it’s out and available then….

Haha Shana!! Glad you liked the OVA, because many thought the creators do not take the show seriously any more, with this and the Shana/Hecate tan specials. But still, its shana!

Indeed I enjoyed it and the tan specials were just brilliant as well. Although I would have loved a serious carry on, I can’t deny the fact that these specials were indeed very good XD
