Finally, Thank The Heavens, It Has Been Subbed!

Yeah, I am that happy.

There has been a lull for me over this season. Of course, there are some most excellent series up and running but I’ve really been feeling depressed at the long desperate wait for Seto no Hanayome to get subbed as it was pretty much my most anticipated anime of the whole season (I rest I sort of just picked up without prior knowledge of). Finally, it has been subbed! Cues the MANLY TEARS OF JOY!

Abstract Comedy to the MAX!

The episode itself, after watching it, I don’t understand why there was a reluctance for a sub to begin with. Although comparatively, it can’t be called the most brilliant show in the world, it is still immensely funny. Piccasso moments aside (which I thought was just rediculously funny) I found the comedy to be great, and I was right in thinking that the overly visual comedy of the manga would translate well to the anime.

So Purty!

Art-wise, I was expecting an okay job from Gonzo and apart from what I feel are slightly too angular heads, they haven’t disappointed, and have pulled through beautifully on certain select scenes. Overall, the episode started very slowly but really went for a rush for the second half, settling into a good comedic pacing.

Family Violence!

What I found to steal the show for me in the anime are Nagasumi’s parents. In the manga they were funny enough, but in the anime, Gonzo have crafted for them even funnier personalities. From having personalities I can identify well with, and to (comedically) beating their son for his transactions. They really raised the bar for me from how I saw the manga and hopefully, we will get to see more from them although they have minimal appearances in the manga. Oh well, some screen shots of the hilarious pair at work.

The Left Hook!?

The Mother seems to support the homoerotic sub-plot.

Utterly Random…

Another thing that stood out for me was the whole homoerotic subplot with Masa forming in the first episode, as hillarious as I found it in the manga. I find myself not like San as much in the anime, possibly because I don’t really like her voice but meh.

Minaide! Hazukashii!

The OP was quite good indeed, with a surfer dude music feel to it. However I found myself quite bored at the ending unfortunately. Overall, this episode was win on so many levels and damn it, I cant wait for more. A special thanks to GG for actually subbing it (and from their projects page, for almost finishing subbing 2 and 3 as well XD )

On a side note, I found this disclaimer at the end absolutely hillarious.

      I’m happy they kept the quasi-love with Masa-san. He’s that badass. :3
