Plot Development

Thoughts
Well, I am sure there were a lot of references here that I just didn’t realise were there. Ruki passed me Macross 7 and Zero a while back but I haven’t watched them yet. Seems I can even get distracted from anime easily. orz
Lack of chance to fanboy about it notwithstanding, it was still a really good episode. All around development from the main cast but more sizably from Ranka. Finally, she is no longer taking the sulking in the sidelines approach to the love triangle springing and fighting against Sheryl winning over Alto, taking the role fully knowing she will need to give Alto some action.
Not that I don’t love Sheryl, but it is a relief for someone on the Ranka boat to see he finally growing up and getting her moment especially after seeing Sheryl and Alto having so many moments together recently. On that note, their kiss in this episode was sweet and the off hand teasing interplay between them afterwards was cute.
On the other development side, there was this weird inclusion of a ‘Hydra’ that went and attacked Ranka. Did the other actress die and they carried on? Anyways, Alto coming to the rescue and has a weird stylised gun fight, which he loses (looked like it was painful too) just for Ranka to be saved by Brere, who we find out is somewhat cyborg like and badass. Ranka mutters nii-san on seeing him. The plot thickens and Ranka now seems pretty important in the run of things.
Ludicrous as it seems, Leon goes undercover in his haircut and flamboyant Hawaiian shirt having secret dealings. With a not so covert (but pretty cool) exchange of data, he gets given what looks to be the crystal from Sheryl’s ear ring. How they managed to find that in the huge battleground after an explosion, I don’t know. So it seems Sheryl now has more importance to the overall plot thickening.
The Home Stretch
In the end, the important thing of this episode, was Ranka finally stepping up from third rate and second string finally taking the spotlight in her own rite. May I just say, this must be a huge blow to Miss Macross, who just ignored by Sheryl already and is now upstaged by Ranka. The fact that the theme song for the movie went from Sheryl to Ranka, really puts her in the spotlight, and things are looking bright for her future. The moment she walked up to the stage, with the uplifting music and the applause, it was just such a wonderful moment.
From the previews, it seems to be getting off to a fast start, even taking glamour shots already and her own concert. I hope to the new songs which I assume come out in the last single planned for release. I want it so badly. T__T
The Passing Shot
The smaller thing this episode, was confirmation on some of Alto’s past, and his old acting. I just love his pose here, he has just become so whipped by Sheryl. XD
Things are surely looking good and it just makes me want more but sadly, we have a week off. Thankfully this means I can really slow down the priorities over the next two weeks in terms of blogging, owing to the fact that the main chunk of my finals is coming up. Why they decided to put all the harder modules in one concentrated burst I don’t know. So probably Geass and some random procrastination posts will be the only thing happening here until the next Macross comes out.
Also, I spent way too much time on this post and barely got anything done… Ah, what I would do to procrastinate. Well, time to hit the books. The Macross Frontier OST on my ipod is making it all the more enjoyable. After this episode, I am completely in love with Aimo.

Episode still reeked of too much Sheryl for me, but I guess it can’t be helped.
Aimo is amazing.
@Shin: The correct phrase is “carried the sweet aroma of Sheryl”.
