A Plea For Scanlation - Nightmare of Nunnally

I remembered when the first season of Code Geass came out, I didn’t take much heed of the manga. There was three - Lelouch of the Rebelion was an abridged retelling, Counterattack of Suzaku was a watered down version with yaoi vibes and Nightmare of Nunnally had me somewhat confused. A year later, for unknown reasons, I checked the raws (this is becoming a habit) for the first two volumes as even now, only two chapter had been scanlated. I found myself amazed, particularly at Zero.

This Is Zero. In NoN, a mix between Spawn and Batman, being able to even take on Knightmare Frames on his own. Revelations later changes this a bit but seriously, this was more awesome and C.C. reappearing was fantastic too especially when we thought that she and Lelouch kicked the bucket in chapter 1. I find myself not really liking a faithful anime to manga adaptation but I liked this because it was a huge departure trying to add something entirely new (like the manga for Eureka Seven which I loved) . Summary for Nightmare of Nunnally from MangaUpdates:

An alternate Code Geass story in which Lelouch’s fate is unknown after his meeting with C.C., whether he be dead or alive. Nunnally makes a Geass contract and gains the power to read the lines of the future. She also obtains a new body and takes up piloting an unusual Knightmare Frame.

Poor Summary I know but man, from just skimming through the two volumes, it looked awesome… I so badly, so desperately need this scanlated. That or I can finish the first volume entirely in a year of intense translation myself. orz

Plea over, now for my regularly scheduled anime blogging. (Been catching up on my manga… Next to catch up fully on is Akumetsu)

Mx0 To End Soon

Canned Dogs reports that Mx0 will be ending after a few more issues in Shounen Jump along with two other titles (which I have never heard of before actually).

No. NO. NO! Another Yasuhiro Kano work gone before its time. This will be as depressing as Pretty Face except I will be seeing it ending live… This was a good fricken story without the awkward gender bending or quasi yuri incest of Pretty Face which is why I thought it may have ran for much longer. Although it has ran for almost twice as long as Pretty Face, I am indeed saddened at seeing it go.

Farewell, I will miss the time we had together. T____T

I’m Sorry But Why Do We Need Rosario to Vampire Season 2!?

Yeah, Rosario to Vampire is getting another season. I somehow knew it was coming but I was hoping they would continue with the manga story-line which gets incredibly better (even the artwork does) but apparently the second season will apparently feature some anime-only characters and will probably be fan service filled filler (rubbish sentence I know).

I still stand by the idea that the show could have been saved if they got around to the second half of the first manga series. Seriously, I do. It became less eechi and a lot more serious. Hell it could have been a whole different series by itself.

All I can do now is just plug for the manga… hoping these shots of the better artwork may persuade those who hated how the anime went to at least check out the manga.

I may go back to this series if I hear it goes back to the manga storyline, otherwise, this is a loss cause altogether. May do a final post on the last episode which I still have left to see. ORZ

Maybe The Expo Was Just An Excuse To Shop

Hm, I believe we have been through this before but I have a shopping problem. I guess going to the Anime Expo where there was much stuff peddled was a bad idea for some one of my condition but luckily I was capped at £100. Doesn’t help me at all when October’s Expo comes around with my having an estimated £500 by then….

So the spoils. Again at any chance I get, I went for a bunch of manga. I found it strange actually that after looking in many places, this was the first time I was able to pick up something from the Shonen Jump line. Gladly I did find this as Vol 5 of both Busou Renkin and D.Gray-man are one of my favourites to still get. I would have gotten more Negima as well but alas I only saw a Vol. 14 and no 13 T____T

My best purchase, has to be the RX-93-V2 Hi-V Gundam. I was looking for the Wing Custom KA actually and was about to set my sights on something else until I saw this beauty on display going for £57. I am going to have so much fun putting this thing together being that this is the first Gundam I have bought in a long while… Expect some posts about it maybe…

My friend who I went with bought a heavy arms custom and the Noir Stirke. I was about to blow my manga money on getting the Noir Strike as well because of its sheer coolness but I resided to later on ordering it. That should come in about two weeks.

So yeah, enough of the conquests, onto thoughts of the actual Expo itself. I found it okay, but it really wasn’t that much for me except as a shopping excursion for all of the niche items I would ever want under one roof. About the only interesting thing was seeing some of the really good DDR players and the Cosplayers. A new experience for me, I actually had fun Cosplay-Spotting. Man, was there a lot of Jariya’s.

Well anyways, it was still an enjoyable excursion and was only a twenty minute walk from my house so I was able to quickly arrive back at a place to get started on my Gunpla XD Expect some posts soon, most probably on the gunpla as all of my attention is attuned to that at the moment, and I don’t think I could concentrate on anything else until it is finished.

But after getting back into action with a huge Master Grade Kit, this could take a while… with the Noir Strike afterwards and also probably a 1/100 scale H.M.S. Victory, I may not get off my modelling binge for a bit =P

It Seems Like the Only Reason I Ever Go Out Anymore

On Friday, I went out to Greenwich, promising to take my sisters and it was the first time I had been outside in a week at the time, due to my recluse lifestyle while I’m ever on break and weirdly enough, I sniffed out the closest Waterstones, immediately found their manga section and started browsing. I was only able to pick up three books before I was yelled at by my sisters that they didn’t come out to see me obsess over manga. Seems like the only reason I go out now apart from school seems to be for thing like this now. Man, do I have a problem. At least I only spent £13.98. 3 for 2 offers are great.

Dears Vol 1-2 and School Rumble

On a side note, I’m back to school now… and it’s killing me T___T

I have to get back into the habit of actually working now. But oh well, another month and I have Study Leave XD and then exams >_<

Internet Drama - Sleeping Forest Skism Leads to Kuu

Alright, so I keep a lot of tags on this group as it entails (wait: entailed) some old team mates I knew back when I scanlated in MangaCult, which merged (a couple of times) until it kind of settled down as Sleeping Forest some time ago. When SF started doing fansubbing as well, I was surprised but thought that hey, it was their decision if they wanted to start branching out that much.

Now I’m led to find out how unhappy some members were. A large majority (the whole Air Gear staff I believe) just up and left, forming Kuu scans. I remember back when I was in the scanlation business for Air Gear. Back then, it was either someone in the group did a chapter or we all lost out which just wasn’t a way to work; leading me to get out of the game just before group merges. Sad to see a group fall back that way and hope that Kuu will enjoy a better time at it.

Explanatory post from their site comes here.

Well, anyone that would like to know why we split, this is the post. The joke post I made before somewhat hit on a few points, but this will state them outright.

First, there had been a long history of rabblerousing by one of the Sleeping-Forest leaders periodically. I’m sure many of you guys noticed us claiming we would pick up many projects, and then dropping them soon after? Well, this was done b/c one of the leaders would constantly clamor for more projects, even when his previous ones were not done. Then, he would work on a few chapters here and there, but be gone and MIA for long periods of time. Many times these projects were already being done by other groups (even if it was done slowly), which built up a lot of infamy for Sleeping-Forest, and got a lot of complaints. The leader who would start the problems would not actually ever directly deal with those who complained… that task fell to me or someone else.

We eventually jumped this hurdle, only to run into another. There was a lot of “honorary status” power positions being distributed in IRC channels, which most of the staff did not agree with. One person even did very limited amounts of work, and retained maximum power, allowing him to do what he wished despite not actually participating very much or very effectively with group projects.

After this the group noticed that there was a large surplus of highly inactive members, who would just idle and chat, but never do anything, which would promote other people to become lazy or at least give them the ability to think “Oh well, I can’t finish this, someone else can get it,” when most of the people weren’t able to. B/c of this we changed channels in order to remove many of the inactive members and the leader who did not really participate. This however did not work as expected b/c the same person who clamored for many projects allowed a couple of the people who didn’t do much work (including the leader that was trying to be removed) back in, with full “honorary status” reinstated.

The last straw was when Sleeping-Forest took up Fansubbing. The two leaders response to many complaints against doing fansubbing (most of the group was against this) was “we own sleeping-forest.” We met sometime later that day as a group (about 10 of our 18 person staff) and decided to break off, and do things our way.

That is how Kuu Scans came to be. We are the same people, just a little less burdened.

Good luck to them and may their Air Gear scanlations keep strong. This reminds me, I’m a little behind in Air Gear actually. D:

There’s Something About April

Spring; signifying love to the romantics, beauty to the holistic, pain to the hay fever sufferers and to any otaku hikkimori worth their salt, it means one of the highest concentration of new anime we can expect until roughly the time it takes for the earth to transverse around the sun once. Spring, yeah: beauty, love and pain in a waving torrent of torrent files for anime upon anime upon anime. Yes, my friends, it’s another Spring Lineup Post D:

Kohaku: Worth Her Salt. Are You!?

I don’t know about you but I enjoy spring watching more for some reason. I lost a lot of luster over anime at the beginning of the winter season only for it to come back around near the end of it, to which I had finally got on the Geass boat =P

Being the Manga Elitist Bastard I am (the hypocritical one who watches enough anime to balance it all out), this season’s line up is surely making my mouth water in anticipation. Some of my favourite series are getting the anime treatment and while I doubt it will be as good (as it usually does, with some of these) it’s still going to be damn well enjoyable to watch anyways. What follows will be some slim pickings from the packed line up based solely on its pre-existing manga.

People Tell Me I Have A Shopping Problem…

I might see where they are coming from…

And so marks my second biggest spend in one day… totaling approximately £190… (my biggest being £300)… I had found out that there was a Borders near by and that it had a pretty good manga section. Getting there, I found myself picking up Volume 3-12 of Negima!, 1-3 of Air Gear and 3-4 of School Rumble. My parents sort of flipped out when I returned home with all of those… And I hadn’t just bought those… One of the biggest reasons I seem to be entirely missing the whole weekend is because I picked up Final Fantasy XII among others. My blogging may be sparser because of it for a while… because I’ll be playing Final Fantasy instead of working on my chemistry paper…

Well, I’ll definitely be busy for at least two weeks, the games notwithstanding as all the chemistry students at my school (me being one… strange how I do more chemistry work when I am mainly a Physics Student) are now in the Open Book Paper rush…. Oh, Joy… D:

Mermaids, Mobs AND Marriage in an anime!?… Could only be Seto no Hanayome…

Alright, so I’ve not been that crazy on upcoming anime… Alright, that was just a plain faced lie; I literally went all fanboy when I heard Busou Renkin and D.Gray-Man were getting the anime treatment. Well, I was browsing around, and came across an upcoming anime post… which I don’t normally, read through but when I saw what the third anime on the list was, I was instantly ecstatic.

[Manga Spotlight] Pretty Face - by Yasuhiro Kano

Alright, a little something I had wanted to do every so often is have a little spotlight on some smaller and less well known manga that I have read upon (and damn have I read a lot… ) Most do not know but there are a good number of manga only titles out there that are just pure gold but get little attention at all so I’m going to try to remedy that, even if it is just a bit… The first one is on the series, ‘Pretty face’ by Yasuhiro Kano (whose other work includes Mx0).
