Zetsubou Shita

A World Without Anymore Of This Anime Has Left Me In Despair. So a great anime has finished (or at least all been subbed now). No, I am not talking about Aria - unlike Ruki, who has cried enough tears that London turned into Venice, I haven’t caught up or got anywhere further than actually having it. I swear I will watch it soon, but I am a busy man (It looks awesome btw, lovely art). What I am talking about here is Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or more specifically Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

The last episode was just the same as usual going through the motions that made this show one of my favourite comedies ever. No big hurrah, no final super climax or resolution. I myself was surprised to find out it had ended. But in doing so, it kept on delivering. The Hatsune Miku inclusion had me absolutely guffawing.

And Kaede is the only fanservice of the show, she is just the more persistent one. I found the idea of a Tsundere Maid Cafe to be hilarious and at the same time somewhat appealing. In the last few episodes, it had enough coverage of most of the characters to make sure that I feel that I would miss each and every one of them now that the show is gone. Even Meru who I didn’t like at all but the final episode somewhat changed that.

There can only be one practitioner of the zetsubou-ken. This was a random but funny addition right near the end. I was once again reminded of all the subtle and sometime not so subtle homages and parodies in the show. I love the many Evangelion mentions especially in the episode with the counter-current.

So I mourn the passing of this show and as I look back I wonder why there wasn’t more of Itoshiki’s family. Those guy were hilarious. But anyways I will surely miss the this (and not the waiting painstakingly for it).

I’ll probably try to watch aria eventually, after I rewatch the Zetsubou Channel episode - Best Episode EVAR! I really really hope for a third season (said hope was talked about in one of the end episodes as well XD).

Kamen No Maid Guy 04 - Obaka

Way to go Kogarashi… Every time he uses his Maid Guy Sight just has me cracking up, he has no tact or sense of decency at all that it is just utterly hilarious. Every episode, he proves again and again why he makes this show so good.

The new character introduces, Liz (an annoying spoiled loli) doesn’t really interest me that much, even with her grudge against Naeka which borders on perverse when she describes it. However the introduction of her Ninja Maid is another thing altogether. She seems to have two personalities going from being very serious, to being a caring coddling nanny of sorts. Her fight with Kogarashi was brilliant, and the man just walks away calmly after inspecting her panties… He need to find a better identifier than the pattern on their panties. Fukibi blowing him up shouting ‘Obaka’ realising what he had done was amusing to boot too.

Vampire Knight 1-4 - Yummy Shoujo Vampire Goodness

I love Vampire Knight, it is now my weekly dose of vampire shoujo goodness. What attracted me to this is probably how serious the whole show tries to be, with Zero’s struggles as a vampire, Aidou and the other one trying to stir trouble and Yuuki trying to keep the whole night-class-are-actually-vampires thing under wraps. I like the decision as to only purebloods can produce vampires allowing for a juicy Yuuki biting by Zero, who finally had something happening about him after he was emo-ing for three episodes.

So yeah, Zero has been fighting the influences of vampirism for 4 years now, and hates the whole race for what was done to him and the murder of his family. Serious stuff here, especially on finally giving in and biting someone he then takes his gun (cool gun with cool shot by the way) to his own head.

I like Yuuki, seriously I do but she does seem to be useless in most dangerous events. Except for the one where she tried defending some students from Aidou to which she needed saving anyways, every other time, she does close to nothing. She just stands there when Aidou was freezing and provoking her, and she was running scared from the level-e’s. Man, if C.C. or Kallen were in this show, I would abandon her like Shirley… but they aren’t. However, for more of the episode 4 moments, she is good to have around…

I’ll try to keep up with this, I think it can go places… or at least become so ridiculously serious, I can’t help but keep up with it. Hm… Vampire Shoujo Goodness!

Code Geass R2 05 - Fun And Wacky

Oh my god, no one… NO ONE saw this coming. Suzaku coming back and his interactions with Lelouch were hilarious as they try to second guess each other and try to play their parts while still hating each other’s guts. The reveal with Nunnally at the end as the new Governor-General was out of this world, but this is where it gets interesting. Lelouch actually shouldn’t know Nunnally, he will have to heart-breaking-ly tell her that he doesn’t have a sister, all so that he isn’t caught by Suzaku. Harsh.

On the other side, Lelouch is slowing removing all the old surveillance troubles he used to have and now, he has Villetta blackmailed now as well in relation to her relationship with Ogi. The nail in the coffin was just Lelouch casually giving her the birthday present and wishing a Happy Birthday… that was slick of him. XD

The rest of the episode wasn’t so serious at all (and it seems to be a pattern this season for 5th episodes from what I saw of Druaga) and was really wacky fun especially the huge chase after the tomato bearing Knightmare Frame. Feeling the C.C. love again, as I really like her in the school uniform. It is hilarious that she would risk capture for the (still unsuccessfully made) giant pizza. She still hasn’t eaten pizza in the longest time though… oh and the ear pieces make her look like Chachamaru as everyone is saying…

I do feel sorry about what happened to C.C. this episode. Lelouch was really callous to just toss her in there. I hope this doesn’t traumatize her toward Pizza. C.C. reveals here that she knows of V.V. I really want to know more about the Geass subplot so this was interesting…

Customary Kallen ass shot… She does seem to be the fan service machine of the second season now… not that I am complaining. Alright I am, it needs more C.C. fanservice - more so than the two or three panty shots of her in the tub of tomatoes.

Quite a lot of fanservice this episode, more so than usual (thank you Shirley, you actually have a use now suggesting this). Although I did want the plot to progress much faster, I did enjoy this episode nonetheless even with little much going on, although the last revelation probably made up for it. Zino and Anya were introduced properly this episode, and I really like them although Zino is way too touchy feely with Suzaku. I declined on Anya screenshots because some people suspect be of being lolicon… The transformer type knightmare frame wasn’t as bad in action as I thought and we didn’t see the Mordred in any action.

Finally, I would like to apologise for the lateness of this post to when I usually get this out, but I was playing in my fight American Football match and we won…. 48-8!! WOO!

Iron Man The Movie - SciFi Fanboy Pandering

This isn’t Anime. That’s right… I sinned! Instead of watching Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone which I recently picked up, I instead went outside into the nice sunny outdoors (it wasn’t raining today for once, pretty odd) to transverse to a indoor location to watch a Movie. That’s right, I sinned and it was good. Very good!

I remember talking a while back about being a fan of SciFi a while back in relation to Macross Frontier, and talking a bit about one of the biggest pulls of the genre for me was fine attention to mechanical detail and imaginative works. Iron Man delivered all of that to me as well. The suit was done so well, the armour moving plates to accommodate different working parts and Jarvis, the funniest and coolest AI with holographic interface computer system ever. I so want that is real life.

I did hear some complaints of bad acting but who can concentrate on that when Iron Man in all his mecha glory is being badass on screen. My favourite part being when he is caught by his assistant in his Iron Man Suit, and he retorts, ‘Well, you have caught me doing worse things…’ to which I completely cracked up. I like the AI and the bots working in his private lab. Who needs Haro’s when these were so much cooler and funnier, what with the putting out a non existent fire.

Iron Man has always been my favourite Marvel-verse Super Hero. He is somewhat like the Batman of Marvel, a hero with no outright powers at all, using technology to bring the edge up and I always loved that idea since I could maybe identify with that more. I loved Iron Man more because of the mechanical aspects. Things like that have always intrigued me. Growing up, I loved the Megazords of Power Rangers (I nearly had them all!) and Transformers (the best part was getting it working and transforming it without instruction) and when I first came across Gundam Wing in my Youth I was blown away. I guess there was the birth of a Mech Anime fan.

In all, this movie was fantastic and deserves multiple viewings which is what I plan to do… This has also made me really want to build some more Gunpla, especially a Perfect Grade which was what I was thinking about as the new Iron Man suit was tested in the movie, with the armour flaps moving to expose the interworking parts… I need a perfect grade so badly now… I will just have to content myself making my master grade Stike Noir…

While I am at it, I so desperately want this figure… It is damn expensive but would be so worth it…

Tower of Druaga 05 - The Magical Gender Reversal Device

I think they forgot that they went serious from episode 2 onwards… Although the content was almost fillerish, I did quite enjoy it for its comedy.

Interest points were the ‘the anime costume trap’… featuring Kaaya in a bunny suit (to which she appears in such later as well), the ‘Coopa’ trap coupled with the ‘Change-back-everyone-but-their-clothes’ trap and what had me laughing the most was the ‘Magical Gender Reversal Device’. And when Jil and Melt try to take advantage of the situations to peek at a hot spring, the pixel trap happens and we are all denied fan service-y goodness. The pixelated animation brought me back to what I remembered of old games, although i started when the quality got marginally better. I was a laugh though.

My favourite part was Jil’s ‘The devil made me do it I swear!’ to which Kaaya asks, ‘The Devil made you perverted!?’ From all the craziness, Kaaya, Melt and Ahmey really shone through and were so funny. It was damn well enjoyable… and the roper dance rocked. Too bad Neeba beat them to the punch… Possibly next episode will get back to seriousness again…

ToLoveRu 05 - O Hohohohohoho Ho!

Saki is surprisingly not as annoying as I thought she would be, being the laughing rich ojou-sama type. In the end, she turned out to be a more likable character to her manga counterpart in my opinion. Although the manga stuff has been really mixed up a bit with a different and earlier introduction of Saki-sama and her two cohorts who I completely cannot remember what their names are, the anime pulls it off pretty well and there have been no pissed off fanboy moments from me yet.

Story directions like this are probably sating me. Pulling Rito from the crowd and enticing him somewhat was a weird scene that I failed to understand the dialogue the first time (probably because I was distracted?) had me more jealous of Rito.

The theme of this season is HATE and JEALOUSY for the main guy of the show… I have been noticing this more often, maybe because I am watching eechier this season. XD… Damn Bastard…

Spot me in this hate filled crowd… we seem to be missing pitch forks! What follows is fan service spam…

A Plea For Scanlation - Nightmare of Nunnally

I remembered when the first season of Code Geass came out, I didn’t take much heed of the manga. There was three - Lelouch of the Rebelion was an abridged retelling, Counterattack of Suzaku was a watered down version with yaoi vibes and Nightmare of Nunnally had me somewhat confused. A year later, for unknown reasons, I checked the raws (this is becoming a habit) for the first two volumes as even now, only two chapter had been scanlated. I found myself amazed, particularly at Zero.

This Is Zero. In NoN, a mix between Spawn and Batman, being able to even take on Knightmare Frames on his own. Revelations later changes this a bit but seriously, this was more awesome and C.C. reappearing was fantastic too especially when we thought that she and Lelouch kicked the bucket in chapter 1. I find myself not really liking a faithful anime to manga adaptation but I liked this because it was a huge departure trying to add something entirely new (like the manga for Eureka Seven which I loved) . Summary for Nightmare of Nunnally from MangaUpdates:

An alternate Code Geass story in which Lelouch’s fate is unknown after his meeting with C.C., whether he be dead or alive. Nunnally makes a Geass contract and gains the power to read the lines of the future. She also obtains a new body and takes up piloting an unusual Knightmare Frame.

Poor Summary I know but man, from just skimming through the two volumes, it looked awesome… I so badly, so desperately need this scanlated. That or I can finish the first volume entirely in a year of intense translation myself. orz

Plea over, now for my regularly scheduled anime blogging. (Been catching up on my manga… Next to catch up fully on is Akumetsu)

Macross Frontier 05 - Ranka Is Winning With Songs, Alto Is Scoring With Sheryl!

This show keeps on churning out more and more songs… I expect many more CDs! Which remind me, the full version of Sheryl’s ‘Iteza*Gogo Kyuu Ji Don’t be late’ is utterly fabulous! Nonetheless, Ranka seems to be winning the singfest with yet another song, she is winning by pure amount now… The song was cute and smooth and I absolutely loved Ranka singing it. XD

I’ll take a little time to say again, that I love the future gadgets particularly the phones - Ranka’s especially… but more so because they lead to scenes like…

…this which was almost as suggestive as we thought. Usage outside of the manufacturer’s guidelines that is. Most of the episode followed Alto and Sheryl out on seemingly a date, Alto being coerced by Sheryl stealing his charm and hiding it in her cleavage. Coy, Sheryl. Way to go.

The end lead to this which had me squealing a bit in joy. I am so conflicted - I like both AltoxSheryl AND AltoxRanka… hm, RankaxAltoxSheryl could do with some thought. I am not certain but I do believe some people did notice that she was Sheryl and she was out with a man (or they may think woman). I see some rumours flying and backlash from this episode but I duly cannot wait to see how it pans out.

Of course, poor Ranka had to see this. How will she fight back for her Alto-kun. I expect some rivalry now for the Princess (lucky bastard Alto) and want to see how that goes.

There was no action this episode but it was fun and enjoyable nonetheless. A little bit does occur with Ozma and the military and at the end with the VF coming out of warp. I am a little confused about all of that because it was pretty dialogue heavy and my Japanese sucks. Will be eagerly awaiting a sub to patch up my understanding…

Soul Eater 03 - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Death the Kid is absolutely hilarious although abandoning the lovely Patty and Liz to check if his painting was askew is going too far! The whole symmetry idea is pretty well droned onto the viewers and I laughed every time he obsessed about it. Hopefully, this kind of reoccurring joke won’t go stale fast. Hopefully because that seems to be all that he is about. XD

Patty and Liz are a cool pair of weapons. I loved their tag team style fight switching weapon and user where necessary. I say this every episode but what really gets me is the fluidness of the action which gives it a much better flair than most other shounen shows I have seen (some have it at parts but Soul Eater is delivering it consistantly). I hope they do keep the high standard up as this is shaping up to be one of the greats…

Kid is really really creepily obsessive, almost being stabbed and hammered to death because the thing he was fighting was beautifully symmetrical… When the Pharoah’s true form was revealed though, a little awkward pause and then utter annihilation via bullet spam. Aggressive and angry Kid is scarily cool. Although I still think his gun style is pretty weird with the pinkies…

And because I missed out last week,  episode 2 with Black Star and Tsubaki was also awesome. The fight with Mifune kicked all kinds of ass, and the final attack after he got serious was so cool. This show is just chuck full of awesome characters. I loved Tsubaki trying to get Black Star to go about his assassin business better but alas he utterly fails to be stealthy in his kills or his peeking trips.

The prologue is over now. The story really begins. I am excited at where this may go!

On a related note, I am following the late night version so am somewhat behind most others but whatever. It may not be worth it because I hear tell that there is little difference. Hell, if the normal version still has Liz and Patty bandage molested, then what was the need of a late night version. Although Kid awkwardly about to leave them alone to their business was s funny. Damn excellent.
